Irish House Concert featuring BUA
Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM (PST)
South Beach, OR
Organizers of the Newport Celtic Festival & Highland Games are kicking off St. Patrick’s week celebrations with a traditional Irish House Concert featuring “Bua.” Named Irish Music Awards’ “Top Traditional Group” of 2009, Bua is a Chicago quartet comprised of some of the most talented young musicians in the US.
Bua plays Irish traditional music with “a precision and intensity that is rarely heard on this side of the Atlantic.” Their sound stands out among modern bands in the genre by “keeping the music down the path of tradition.” Their 2011 release, Down the Green Fields, finds Bua further down that path where the band explores forgotten sounds and inspirations with a blend of enchantingly stark song arrangements and bold, earthy dance tunes.
As one of America's primary settling places for Celtic peoples (trailing only Boston and New York), Chicago has long been a hotbed of traditional Irish music. Bua has performed at many of the top Irish and folk festivals in North America including the National Folk Festival, the Milwaukee Irish Festival, the Lowell Folk Festival, the Dublin (Ohio) Irish Festival, Celtic Fest Chicago, Catskills Irish Arts Week and the largest Celtic event in North America--Bethlehem, PA’s Celtic Classic, who have chosen Newport as an official sister festival.

Celtic Heritage Alliance, Inc.
The Celtic Heritage Alliance is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation fostering awareness and education of Celtic culture on the Oregon Coast.
While nearly one in five Oregonians claim Celtic ancestry, many have lost touch with their roots. Part of the organization’s mission is to connect people with their heritage through music, dance, athletics and other activities.
In its first year, the group has staged the Celtic Festival & Highland Games in June, held an Irish Céilí community dance for the Celtic New Year in October, a Robert Burns Supper in January and an Irish house concert for St. Patrick’s Day.
